A Message to Cobra Nation

GREENSBORO, NC – It is with heavy hearts that the Carolina Cobras announces that the team will go “dormant” for the remainder of the 2025 National Arena League season. This difficult decision was not made lightly. We want to be fully transparent with our fans and community about why this step is necessary. Today’s statement is meant to acknowledge our current challenges and share our appreciation for the support we’ve received.

Over the past eight seasons, operating the Carolina Cobras has been filled with emotional highs that we will always treasure. We’ve shared countless moments of joy with all of you. We’ve watched the pure delight on a child’s face catching a football thrown into the stands during games. We’ve seen our players stay long after the final buzzer to sign autographs and take photos with fans, young and old. We’ve felt the roar of the crowd shake the walls of the First Horizon Coliseum after every electrifying touchdown and pivotal defensive stop. Those memorable game moments – and the pride of representing Greensboro and Cobra Nation – are what define the Carolina Cobras. We are immensely grateful for each of these memories and for the unwavering passion and support of our fans that made them possible.

However, along with these highs have come serious challenges behind the scenes. For some time, our organization has been confronting significant financial and operational hurdles. Rising costs and unforeseen circumstances have placed a strain on our ability to sustain the team at the standard that our fans, players, and partners deserve. The reality is that we could not continue the season under these conditions without risking the long-term viability of the franchise. As a result, we had to make the heartbreaking choice to pause operations for now.

We know this news is disappointing to everyone who loves Cobras football, and for that we sincerely apologize. We apologize to our dedicated players and coaches – who have poured their hearts into this season – for the abrupt end to their campaign. We apologize to our loyal fans, whose excitement and commitment are the lifeblood of this team, for the frustration and sadness this announcement may cause. We also extend our apologies to our valued sponsors and vendors whose partnerships and services have been integral to our game-day operations. We understand the difficulties and inconvenience this situation creates for all of you, and we are truly sorry to have let you down.

Despite these challenges, the Carolina Cobras are not finished – far from it. We want to make one thing abundantly clear: our commitment to this team and community is unwavering, and this is not the end of the Carolina Cobras. As an organization, we are already hard at work addressing our issues and laying the groundwork for a strong comeback. In the weeks and months ahead, we will keep you updated on our progress. The road to our return will not be easy, but we are optimistic and determined.
