Cobras Announce Return of Anson Yarborough as Defensive Coordinator
GREENSBORO, NC - The Carolina Cobras announce the hiring of DC Anson Yarborough
Anson Yarborough will be in his third season coaching professional arena football. He is a former South Carolina Gamecock, where he played under the “Ol Ball Coach”, Steve Spurrier. As an athlete he kicked off his arena football career with the Florence Phantoms. He continued his career with the Cape Fear Heros, Triangle Torch and won a Championship at almost every stop but most recently with the Atlanta Havoc. He even briefly played for the Cobras in 2019.
As a coach he actually hit the ground running, obtaining his first career job as Head Coach of the Carolina Havoc taking them all the way to the playoffs of the American Arena League. This season will be his second as the defensive coordinator. Coach Yarborough had this to say about his return for 2022; “I am very grateful for the opportunity to return with such a great organization. In 2021 we got off to a bit of a slow start and then towards the end of the season we started to catch our stride. Losing a talent like Joe Powell early really set us back, but guys like Ethan Farmer, Tevin Homer, Brandon Rowland, Micheaux Robinson and Herb Waters really stepped it up for us on the defensive side of the ball as we improved greatly. I think things will only continue to get much better for us. I’ve learned a lot under the tutelage of Coach Res and I think we will return to the old Cobra glory and will shake things up a lot this season in the league. I can’t wait to return to the field and do what I love to do and see those Cobra fans, the best fans in arena football!”
Head Coach/General Manager Resignalo “Coach Yarborough has been with me really since 2014 as a player thru 2019. Will be his 2nd year with us in Carolina as a Coach. We went through some tough times in the 2021 Season but Coach Anson kept pushing through with me and never backed down from adversity. He is always right there backing me up and loyalty is hard to find in this business. We finished strong getting to the playoffs and look to get back to the NAL Championship in 2022!”
So now both Coordinator positions are taken care of with Coach Yarborough on the defensive side and Coach Fuller on the offensive side, so huge things are coming to Cobra Nation for the 2022 season.
