Four Downs Plus One with Carolina Cobras #7 WR/DB Tre Long

This week we sat down the current top ball hawk in the secondary Tre Long, who is tied for the lead in the league with two interceptions through two games, including returning one for a TD, and stopping a scoring drive in the end zone with the second one.  He also has a TD receiving.  He jumped in the hot seat this week and here is what he had to say.

First Down:  You are two games into the season playing ironman and have shined in the process.  How have you liked playing both ways so far?

Tre:  I’m adapting to it.  It has been a while since I played both sides, especially defense, but God has blessed me with durability and being coachable, and I’m very thankful for that.

Second Down: You are tied for the lead league with two interceptions, has playing WR for so long helped you in your DB play?

Tre: Along with Coach Anson and Coach Mike Green’s knowledge of the game, being a well-polished WR has slowed the game down for me.  I don’t really think there are a lot of receivers that can do to me, things I haven’t done to a lot of DBs in the country.

Third Down:  Everyone’s goal going into the season is winning a Championship, but what are your personal goals for the season?

Tre:  First goal is to win a championship, I’m a team player, always have been.  Personally, most of my goals were on the offensive side of the ball.  I didn’t expect any of this play on the defensive side of the ball, but since it’s happening, I’d love to end the season Top Three in interceptions and First Team All-NAL.

Fourth Down:  The Cobras record for Interceptions in a season is 10, by your DB Coach Michael Green, how much has he helped you on defense?

Tre:  That’s my guy!  He has taught me so much in such a short time.  He believed I’d be a better DB than I ever thought I would be.  Him, and Coach Anson, I wouldn’t be here without either one of them.

Plus One: What is something that Cobra Nation could learn about you that is not football related?

Tre:  I’m a very high character guy.  I was homeless as a child, so it has shaped me into being a selfless man.  Very giving in all aspects of life, always willing to help someone, even if their intentions aren’t pure.

Make sure you come to the Greensboro Coliseum Saturday night at 7PM and see Tre and the Cobras in action!  You can even meet him and get an autograph after the game!
