WEEK 6 RECAP: Cobras Rush to Third Straight Victory at Home

Cobras Run Away With Another Win in the Snake Pit 58-32 Against Orlando

GREENSBORO, NC - The Carolina Cobras (3-1) did it again they won at home and have stacked their third-straight victory in the Snake Pit! This week the Cobras faced the Orlando Predators (1-3) with some familiar players returning to the snake pit as several former Empire players from the last Cobras matchup now play for the Predators. After a back and forth first quarter the Cobras literally ran away with this one with over five rushing touchdowns coming from three different Cobras. Carolina finished the night victorious 58-32 but here is how it happened. 

Kicking off, the Orlando Predators got the ball first but after three downs and a huge sack shared by Kevin Voyles and Zack Brown the Cobras claimed their first stop of the night. The offense with good field position gained the first score of the night with a pass from Malik Henry to receiver Nyqwan Murray. Orlando answered back immediately with a kick return for a touchdown from WR/KR Darius Prince. Carolina's Adam Smith responded with his own kick return for a touchdown for a electric beginning to the first quarter. 

The special teams clinic would continue as the Darius Prince scored back to back kick returns for a touchdown, a first in league history. Predators kicker Dylan Barnas would honor the play by scoring a deuce. Carolina would play the field from there as quarterback Malik Henry drove the Cobras down the field and FB/LB Zack Brown would punch in a rushing touchdown to give the Cobras the 20-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

The Cobras would struggle early as Carolina's defense held off a Orlando score but the Carolina offense would commit their first turnover of the night as a Malik Henry pass was intercepted by Predators WR/DB Rob Jones. To make matters worse Orlando used their league MVP WR/DB Darius Prince to score their first passing touchdown courtesy of quarterback Joseph Hess. Orlando would only enjoy their only lead of the night for a short time as the Cobras offense continue to struggle but the defense did not as defensive back Mike Green gained a interception for a touchdown giving the Cobras the 27-22 lead. The spark ignited the Carolina offense as they returned to the field with a scoring drive with Zack Brown again, his second rushing touchdown of the night. 

Both the Cobras and Predators suffered errors on special teams from missed extra points, to blocked kicks, to failed stops on kickoff that lead to scores. The most success aspect of the Cobras game tonight was on the shoulders of their defense as veteran Mike Green gained his second pick six of the night putting Carolina up 39-22 with the applause from the crowd behind them the Cobras looked GREAT in the SNAKE PIT. Before halftime the Predators were able to knock down field goal right before half to close the game to 39-25 at halfime. 

Into the second half, fans expecting the Cobras to the come out firing from the air were stunned. The Cobras defense shut out the Orlando Predators but the Cobras offense only managed a six points in the third quarter with another rushing down from none other than Zack Brown this time off a 30-yard rush. A Malik Henry interception grabbed from Delvon Randall keep the Cobras at six-points. 

In the final quarter, the Cobras crowd and team ran away with this game as Quarterback Malik Henry scored a rushing touchdown early in the quarter as the Cobras defensive continued to stop the Predators offense with a new quarterback in the game who was pick off early by defensive back Kenny Veal. DL/FB Kevin Voyles gained the cobras fifth rushing touchdown of the night putting Carolina up 58-25. Orlando's backup Quarterback Jeff Legree would deliver one last blow with a rushing touchdown but it would not be enough to stop the Cobras from their third-straight win at home continuing their undefeated streak at home to 3-0 with a 58-32 win at home. 

The stars for tonight came from the running game and the defense as FB/LB Zack Brown had a season high three rushing touchdowns, while defensive Mike Green had a season high two interceptions, both that led to touchdowns.The Cobras now advance to 3-1 just a game behind the league leading San Antonio Gunslingers (4-0). The Cobras will hit the road in week 7 to face the Fayetteville Mustangs (2-2) Friday, May 19 at the Crown Coliseum.
